Chinese gender calendar 2026: baby gender calculator and chart by lunar age
The Chinese gender calendar, also called the Chinese baby calendar, is a traditional chart of 28 lunar-age rows, 18 to 45, by 12 lunar months of conception, and each cell reads Boy or Girl. Enter the mother’s birth date and the conception date and the calculator finds the cell; the chart is the same for 2025, 2026 and 2027, only the lunar age and the lunar month change.

Lunar age: how it is counted
Lunar age, the nominal age or 虚岁, counts a person as one at birth and adds a year at every Chinese New Year: the lunar year of conception minus the lunar year of birth, plus one. It is the row the chart uses, and it usually runs one or two years above the Western age.

Read the baby chart and calendar together
The conception inputs, folk-chart label and baby’s zodiac are connected here, but calculated from different dates.
What each date supplies
- Mother’s birthday + conception
- Together they give nominal lunar age and the lunar conception month—the chart’s row and column.
- Baby’s birth or expected date
- This separately gives the baby’s year animal, element and Yin/Yang. An expected date is a preview; the actual birth date may cross a Chinese New Year boundary.
- Parents’ birthdays
- Each parent’s year animal is compared with the baby’s year animal. A pairing does not confirm or contradict a folk-chart label.
Preview first, then apply a date
Selecting a calendar square changes the preview, not the dates entered above. Switch between conception and baby-date views to inspect the relevant reading. Use “Use as…” only when you want that date to replace an input.
Conception mode shows lunar-age rows and chart labels. Baby mode shows the shared birth-year sign above the month, with the changing day animal and element inside each cell. The entered conception and birth or expected dates remain marked in both modes. These are calendar comparisons, not fertility windows or recommended delivery dates.
Worked example · a one-day difference
The age row stays; the month column changes
For a mother born on 15 June 1990, an entered conception date of 10 September 2026 is lunar month 7, day 29, at 37 sui. The next day is month 8, day 1. The age row stays 37, but the chart column changes.
The nearby-date comparison groups 3–10 September in month 7 and 11–17 September in month 8. It shows sensitivity to the date entered; it does not establish when conception occurred.
Questions about missing or changing results
Why can a valid date have no chart label?
This chart has age rows 18–45 and no separate leap-month column. For example, 22 March 2023 converts successfully to leap month 2, day 1. We preserve that date instead of substituting the regular second month. An age outside the chart rows can also be valid. See the leap-month example →
Do I need every field?
No. The mother’s birthday and conception date are needed together for chart inputs. A baby’s own date can produce a zodiac reading independently. Another parent’s birthday adds only that parent’s comparison.
Does changing conception change the baby’s sign?
Not by itself. The baby’s sign follows the separate birth or expected date. Chinese New Year, rather than 1 January, marks its year boundary. Explore the New Year boundary →
