What this converter does

Find the Chinese lunar date for an everyday calendar date, or turn a recorded lunar date into a Gregorian date. Use it for birthdays, anniversaries, family records and festival planning.

What is Gregorian?

The January-to-December calendar used for everyday dates follows the solar year. Enter a complete date, including the year: 10 February 2024, for example.

The result describes that same day as lunar year 2024, month 1, day 1—Chinese New Year.

What is a Chinese lunar date?

Its months follow new moons and contain 29 or 30 days. Solar rules keep the year aligned with the seasons, so the calendar is more precisely called lunisolar.

Lunar month one is not January. A complete date needs a year, month, day and, when relevant, a leap-month marker.

How does conversion work?

Gregorian input locates the day inside its lunar year and month. Reverse conversion selects the lunar month’s opening date and counts forward to the numbered day.

A repeated leap month is a separate interval. Select “leap” only when the original record says 闰; it can change the answer by a whole month.

Find a birthday

Conversion gives the lunar date of birth. A lunar birthday repeats that month and day in another lunar year, so its Gregorian date moves.

Understand a festival

Many festivals follow a lunar month and day; Qingming and Winter Solstice instead follow solar terms. The date rule matters before converting.
